Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes
The Bovis Auvergne teams transfer everything that is heavy, fragile or precious.
Specialists in the transfer of works of art in Auvergne Rhône Alpes, our delicate handling agency was contacted to carry out the transfer of a giant fossil in Auvergne by the Pierres Folles space in Saint Jean des Vignes (69).
The Pierres Folles space is a museum that reveals the astonishing mineral wealth of Beaujolais. You can admire the abundant fossils of the Pierres Dorées region, including the magnificent cast of a giant ichthyosaur unearthed locally, but also the many carved flints, polished axes and other tools of the Beaujolais Prehistory Centre.
It is this cast of a giant ichthyosaur, emblem of the Pierres folles space, that has been the subject of all the attention of our specialized handlers
They handled, crated, loaded and removed the work and then delivered it, installed it and hung it at the Espace Pierre Folles Museum in St-Jean-des-Vignes (69).
Crating and packaging of the work of art in Auvergne Rhône Alpes
In order to proceed with the transfer of the work, the cast of the giant sea monster had to be packaged on a wooden easel custom-made by our teams at Bovis Auvergne. Our carpenters have therefore made a custom-made packaging with this easel of monumental dimensions: Length: 8.50m - Height: 2.62m - Width: 2.14m and equipped with a dozen directional wheels.
Following the manufacture of the custom-made wooden easel by our companions; Our handlers then craned the whole thing in order to place the trestle on the platform of our trailer.
Handling of the work of art
Once they arrived at the site of the transfer of works of art, our companions installed a runway by placing distribution sheets on the ground.
Our men then unloaded the crate as well as the packaging and handling equipment on the site of the Saint des Vignes museum.
After protecting the raceway to prevent its degradation with Tecamid plates, our handlers transferred the work to its custom-made easel, with all the necessary precautions, in order to be able to transport it in ideal conditions that respected its integrity.
Following this delicate handling, once the work was delicately placed on the easel for transport, our teams set up a meticulous packaging appropriate to the specificities of the work. The trestle will then be rolled to the truck, slung into a barrel and loaded with our crane.
Transport of the work to the museum Espace pierres folles
Once the transport is completed, the trestle is placed on the haulage path: a 9m long and 2.50m wide decking is provided to accommodate it. The handling that follows transport is carried out in the Museum building. This handling was done using our 2 stackers and our hydraulic goat. They were meticulous and organized to the millimeter in order to handle the work, then remove it from the easel and finally hang it on the wall provided for this purpose.
Thank you to this beautiful Museum of Auvergne Rhône Alpes for its trust.
