Groupe BOVIS, a specialist in heavy and delicate handling, recently showcased the full extent of its expertise by successfully carrying out the relocation of the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire (CHU) de Reims to the brand-new Christian Cabrol building. This operation, which began in September 2024, is part of a large-scale hospital modernization project spanning 10 years.
A Complex Hospital Transfer Project
The relocation of the CHU de Reims was a major logistical and organizational challenge for our specialized unit, Bovis Transferts. The new Christian Cabrol Hospital, a 58,000 m² facility, opened its doors on September 3, 2024, after four years of construction. This new hospital, primarily dedicated to surgical activities, houses various healthcare services across eight floors.
A total of 30 departments were transferred to the new site over five weeks, with an initial move focusing on imaging services and administrative departments. The operating rooms were scheduled to open in mid-September, with a gradual transfer of critical equipment to ensure the continuity of care.
With nearly 50 years of experience, Groupe BOVIS handled the entire relocation process, providing a turnkey solution. From the beginning of the project in 2022, a detailed audit and inventory were conducted to define transfer protocols in close collaboration with the medical and administrative teams of the CHU. The primary objective was to ensure the continuity of patient care while adhering to strict safety and operational continuity standards.
The relocation involved a dedicated team of 30 movers, operating with four trucks and conducting daily rotations to transport the equipment. Over 15,000 m³ of medical and administrative equipment were transferred, with logistics coordinated across 320 orders and the installation of new equipment from 120 suppliers.
A Meticulous Organization for a Successful Transfer
The relocation phase was particularly intense, especially in September 2024, with the reception of nearly 10,000 pallets of equipment in just six weeks. This meticulously planned operation was made possible through close collaboration between BOVIS and the various CHU teams, including procurement, biomedical services, and digital services management.
Each stage of the transfer was carefully scheduled, with a gradual start-up of hospital services floor by floor. The transfer of the operating rooms, in particular, was conducted in two phases to ensure patient safety and maintain urgent surgical interventions.
A Trusted Partner for Large-Scale Projects
This complex relocation operation marks the end of the first phase of the CHU de Reims’ modernization plan. The project will continue in 2025 with the demolition of the Maison Blanche hospital’s surgical wing, followed by the construction of a new facility dedicated to medical activities.
With its expertise and ability to manage large-scale projects, Groupe BOVIS strengthens its position as a leader in healthcare facility transfers. By meeting the highest standards in hospital handling and logistics, BOVIS continues to support its clients in their modernization efforts, always with the same precision and efficiency.
The relocation of CHU de Reims is just one of many examples of Groupe BOVIS’ ability to manage complex projects, ensuring safety and the continuity of care for healthcare institutions.
Looking to the Future
With nearly five decades of experience, Groupe BOVIS remains an essential player in hospital relocations. The success of this project highlights not only its expertise in heavy and delicate handling but also its ability to anticipate and manage large-scale projects.
Looking ahead, Groupe BOVIS will continue to support hospitals in their modernization projects, further solidifying its role as a trusted partner in this highly specialized sector and reaffirming its commitment to the healthcare industry.
